Updated: 12/01/2019 by Computer Hope
86-DOS screen

Initially known as QDOS (Quick and Dirty Disk Operating System), 86-DOS is a command-line operating system developed by Tim Paterson at SCP (Seattle Computer Products). The OS (operating system) was first publicly demonstrated in June 1979.

In 1981, Microsoft licensed 86-DOS, porting it to the IBM PC. Microsoft re-branded the operating system first as PC-DOS, then as MS-DOS in 1982.
