ABIOS

Updated: 04/26/2017 by Computer Hope

Short for Advanced BIOS, ABIOS can support calls in protected mode. ABIOS was first used with the IBM PS/2 running the OS/2 operating system, but is now included on all new PCs.

Note

The alternative to ABIOS was CBIOS (Compatibility BIOS). CBIOS provided a real-mode portion that allowed for backward compatibility.
