AES

advanced encryption standard

Short for Advanced Encryption Standard, AES is an encryption algorithm first used by the United States government to protect sensitive documents. AES is designed as a substitute for DES (Data Encryption Standard) and supported in many encryption programs such as PGP (Pretty Good Privacy).
