An agent may refer to any of the following:
1. A program or script used to perform a task for the user. For example, an e-mail program, (e.g., Microsoft Outlook), could be considered a software agent since it can get e-mail from any server and display it on your computer.
2. In computer networking, an agent is a part of the system that prepares data for the server or client.
3. When describing a call center, customer service, or technical support, an agent is a person who assists someone with their questions about a companies product or service.
