Baseline

Baseline may refer to any of the following:

1. With a benchmark or measurement, a baseline is the starting point that all other comparisons and measurements use.

Example showing a text ascender and descender.

2. A baseline is a hidden horizontal line where all lowercase characters are place to keep text even, unless otherwise changed by the program. The picture shows the baseline with the descender on the letter "p" going past the line.
