Carnivore

First deployed in October 1997, Carnivore (later known as DCS1000) is a software tool used by the FBI in the United States. It helps the FBI (in cooperation with Internet service providers) comply with court requests for collecting certain electronic information or e-mails from a specific user. Carnivore was initially known as Omnivore and later transitioned to Carnivore when moving from Solaris x86 operating systems to Windows NT operating systems.
