Why is my CD-ROM drive not the D: drive?

When another peripheral or partition is installed or created on a computer, the CD-ROM (Compact Disc Read-Only Memory) is automatically set as the last drive in Microsoft Windows. For example, if your disc drive was the D: drive and you add another hard drive or create a new partition, your disc drive becomes the E: drive.
