Why does my computer go to BIOS setup when booting?
If your computer requires you to enter BIOS setup every time your computer boots, the following steps may help you fix the problem.
Recently added hardware
If you recently added hardware into the computer, enter BIOS setup and enter the new configurations, or verify the hardware settings are correct. Once verified, save and exit the BIOS setup.
CMOS values are not entered correctly
If the values in the BIOS configuration are entered improperly, the computer prompts you to enter BIOS to fix the problem.
You may also be prompted to enter BIOS if one of your computer's hardware components is malfunctioning. This prompt appears if the device cannot be found, values have changed, or the device is communicating with the BIOS incorrectly.
CMOS battery is dead
If the BIOS values are becoming lost each time you reboot the computer, the CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) battery may be dead. If you notice the date and time being reset to the date the BIOS was made (e.g., early 1990s), then the battery is dead.
