If you encounter errors when trying to read or write to a fixed disk, the following steps may help you resolve the issue.

Hard drive not set up properly in BIOS

Verify the drive is setup as Auto or correctly manually configured in BIOS (Basic Input/Output System).

Hard drive not connected

Caution

When working inside your computer, take precautions to prevent ESD (ElectroStatic Discharge).

Power down and unplug your computer. Open the case. Verify that the cables are properly and securely connected to the hard drive. Perform the same check at the location where the hard drive cables connect to the motherboard.

Bad hard drive

If the hard drive is set up as auto or is correctly manually and connected properly, it's likely that the hard drive is bad. It is recommended a new hard drive be purchased or that the computer be serviced.
