Floppy disk fail (40) or (80) error

If you experience a "Floppy Disk Fail (40) or (80)" error, the following steps may help you fix the problem.
Floppy cable not connected properly
Verify that the floppy disk drive cable is connected correctly.
Bad floppy cable
If the floppy disk drive appears to be set up properly and the light is not always on, the floppy drive cable may be bad. We recommend getting a new cable from a computer hardware store and purchase a new cable.
If the issue persists, it's likely either the floppy drive is bad, the I/O board, or motherboard is bad. We recommend you contact the computer manufacturer, have the computer serviced or replace the floppy drive then the motherboard if the issue persists.
