How to change a monitor refresh rate

Changing a monitors refresh rate may be necessary on older computer monitors to help prevent any flicker or other distorted images. Below are the steps you can change your monitor refresh rate in Microsoft Windows.
Microsoft Windows XP and later users
- Open the Control Panel.
- Open Display icon or Properties.
- In Display, click the Settings tab.
- Click the Advanced button.
- Click the Monitor tab.
- In this window, you can increase and decrease the computer monitor's refresh rate. We recommend you set the refresh rate to at least 75Hz, if supported.
Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me users
- Open the Control Panel.
- Double-click the Display icon.
- In Display, click the Settings tab.
- In Settings, click the Adapter tab.
- In this window, you can increase and decrease the computer monitor's refresh rate. We recommend you set the refresh rate to at least 75Hz, if supported.
