How to disable and enable AAM

Drive manufacturer utilities

Computer hard drive

Our recommend solution for disabling and enabling AAM (Automatic Acoustic Management) on drives that have this feature is to use utilities available from your hard drive manufacturer.

Third-party solutions

Although not all drives with AAM allow the user to disable this feature, you can still disable it using third-party utilities such as HDDScan.

Note

For users looking to disable AAM in the hopes of gaining extra performance from their computer, you notice little if any performance gain by disabling or reducing this feature. You will, however, increase the overall noise generated from the drive. Also, using a third-party utility such as HDDScan on a drive who's manufacturer doesn't support disabling AAM, disabling it can void your drive's warranty.
