How to list and sell things on eBay
Create user account
Selling items on eBay requires you to have an eBay user account. If you do not have a user account yet, you must register for one, which is free. You should see a link in the upper-left corner of the eBay homepage titled "Hi! Sign in or register." Proceed by following the registration process to create your free eBay account.
Start selling your items
After creating your account, you can start the item selling process. At the top of the eBay homepage, click the "Sell" link.
Select item category
The first page in the item selling process lets you search for the item to be sold. Information about your item may be suggested by eBay, which you may automatically include in your auction. If your item has a UPC (Universal Product Code) or ISBN (International Standard Book Number) number (a barcode number), enter that number in the text field below the "Start a new listing" heading. If your item does not contain a barcode, you can enter a general title for your item. Doing so lets you determine which category to list your item under, to help potential buyers find it more easily. You have the option of choosing a category recommended by eBay or browse all available categories and select the one that best suites your needs.
Item, payment, and shipping details
In the "Describe your item" section, you can enter various details about the item you are selling, like brand, size, color, UPC code (if any) and other details. You can add up to 12 photos of your item, but only one photo is required to list your item. There is a large text box for you to enter a more detailed description about your item if you choose to do so.
- In the "Choose a format and price" section, you can enter a starting price for your auction, a Buy It Now price, and the duration of the auction (three days, five days, etc.).
- Choose a form of payment you accept in the "Select how you'll be paid" section.
- Set the shipping options you want to offer to your potential buyers in the "Add shipping details" section.
- Lastly, in the "Add other details" section, you can enter any sales tax information and other instructions for buyers.
The more details you provide, the more informed a potential buyer is, which can be the difference between someone making a bid and not making a bid.
You can ship to one or more countries and enter a flat shipping price or allow for a calculated shipping price. The calculated shipping price is determined on the package weight and the buyer's location.
Final review and listing submission
On the last page of the item selling process, you can review your listing details, preview the auction page, and submit your item to be listed on eBay. Your item is now listed for auction or sale on eBay and ready to be sold!
