When creating a document with Google Docs, you may want to include a link, or hyperlink, to an external website. Links are useful for creating a bibliography to cite sources, link to Google Docs, reference YouTube videos, or another instance that requires a page to be opened in Google Docs.
How to insert a link in Google Docs
- Select the portion of text you want to link to an external page by dragging your cursor across the text.
- Click the Insert link icon, or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+K.
- In the Link text box, enter the URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of the external website, or paste the URL from the clipboard using Ctrl+V.
- Click Apply.
Tip
The text in a link can be edited like any other text. To change the URL text, or remove the link altogether, click the link and select Change or Remove.
