Classification is a term referring to separating objects or ideas into a predetermined category. For example, the classification of a computer monitor could be CRT (Cathode Ray Tube), standard LCD (Liquid-Crystal Display), or LED (Light-Emitting Diode) backlit LCD. More specific classifications are often considered subclasses.
