Color subsampling

Alternatively called chroma subsampling, color subsampling is an image processing technique used to reduce the color resolution without affecting the intensity (brightness). Color subsampling allows an image to take up less disk space (in the case of a video less bandwidth) without having the appearance of a degraded image.
