COMMAND.COM

COMMAND.COM is a command-line interpreter used with various operating systems, including MS-DOS, Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows Me. Early on, this was the first program to run when a computer would boot up. The main functions of COMMAND.COM were to start batch files and execute commands via a command-line interface.

COMMAND.COM was followed by another command-line interpreter, cmd.exe (also knowns as Command Prompt), in Windows XP and later versions. However, COMMAND.COM can still be used in virtual DOS machines.
