How to use the Ctrl+- keyboard shortcut
To use this keyboard shortcut, press and hold either Ctrl key, and while continuing to hold, press the - key.
Ctrl+- in Internet browsers
While in any Internet browser, pressing Ctrl+- zooms out and decreases the font size of the web page (if supported).
To reset the font to the default size, use the shortcut Ctrl+0.
Ctrl+- in Microsoft Word
Pressing Ctrl+- in a Microsoft Word creates an en dash.
For this shortcut to work you must use the hyphen on the number pad. If your keyboard doesn't have a number pad see our em dash page for other methods of creating an em dash.
Ctrl+- in Microsoft Excel
Pressing Ctrl+- shows Delete window to delete cells, rows, or column.
