How to use the Ctrl+P keyboard shortcut

To use this keyboard shortcut, press and hold either Ctrl key, and while continuing to hold, press P.

Ctrl+P in an Internet browser

In all major Internet browsers (e.g., Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera), pressing Ctrl+P opens a window that lets you print the current page.

Tip

Most browsers now also give you the option to save the print preview as a PDF (Portable Document Format) too.

Ctrl+P in Excel and other spreadsheet programs

In Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet programs, pressing Ctrl+P opens the print preview window.

Ctrl+P in Microsoft PowerPoint

In Microsoft PowerPoint, Ctrl+P has the following functions, depending on the view.

  1. In the Normal view, it opens the Print page to view the print preview and print the slide deck.
  2. In the Slide Show view, it changes the normal cursor to the pen tool.
