DDS

Short for Digital Data Storage, DDS is the industry standard for storing computer data DAT (Digital Audio Tapes). DDS tape drives utilize the same technology as a VCR (video cassette recorder) to record information and are generally used to backup data on network servers.

The four types of DDS

  • DDS-1: Maximum storage of up to 2 GB of uncompressed data on a 120-minute cartridge.
  • DDS-2: Maximum storage of up to 8 GB of data in compressed format on a 120-minute cartridge.
  • DDS-3: Maximum storage of up to 24 GB of data on a 125-minute cartridge.
  • DDS-4: Maximum storage of up to 40 GB of data on a 125-minute cartridge.
