Definition

A definition may refer to any of the following:

1. A definition is the meaning of a word. A list of thousands of definitions for computer-related terms are in our Computer Hope glossary of terms. See our computer definition for a full example of one of our many definitions.

2. With an antivirus scanner, a definition or pattern file is a file or database containing information about a virus or other malware. As new information about viruses and malware is collected and analyzed, these definitions are updated to help the scanner better detect, quarantine, and remove malware.

3. When writing in HTML (hypertext markup language), the <dfn> tag, also known as the HTML definition element, is utilized to designate the first use of a new a term.
