Disassembly may refer to any of the following:
1. With hardware, to disassemble is to break down a device into separate parts. A device may be disassembled to help determine a problem, to replace a part, or take the parts and use them in another device or sell them individually. For example, if a computer has a bad processor, you may need to open the computer case, disassemble the heat sink and processor, and manually replace it.
2. With software, disassembly is taking the source code from a program.
