Emo

Short for emotional, emo is a slang term describing a person and their fashion choices or personality. With a fashion statement, an emo is an individual who wears dark clothing and may have hair bangs parted to cover half of their face. When describing a personality, emo describes an angry, depressed, lonely, or shy person who can even escalate to someone who self-mutilates.

In chat, someone may use an emotag, a markup tag that helps illustrate emotion. For example, someone could say <grin>, <cry>, or <smile> as a way of expressing each of those emotions.
