An equation is a mathematical expression of the form A=B, usually containing variables (unknowns), which is used to calculate values or solutions. An example of an equation is x + 4 = 14, where x is a variable. The goal is to determine what value for x results in making the equal (=) sign true. In this example, the solution is x = 10.
Equations are used in many fields of study, including mathematics, chemistry, and physics. There are also many different types of equations, including algebraic, transcendental, functional, differential, and integral.
