Fabless

The term fabless, sometimes called fabless manufacturing, describes a company that designs and sells semiconductor chips and hardware, but outsources their fabrication. Examples of fabless companies include: Apple, Broadcom, Qualcomm, Intel, and Xilinx.
Why do companies go fabless?
There are a few reasons that companies adopt a fabless model. One is to keep production costs low, which generates higher profits and can sometimes save the consumer money. Another is that it allows companies to spend more money on research and development rather than manufacturing, which can lead to a superior product.
