Although a thumb is considered to be a digit, most people do not think of a thumb as a finger. In other words, your hand has four fingers and one thumb.

What is the name of the fingers?

If you start from your thumb, the first finger is called the index finger, next is the middle finger, then the ring finger, and then finally the pinky finger.

There can be many different names for each of the fingers. Below are some alternative names.

• Index finger - forefinger, first finger, pointer finger, or trigger finger.
• Middle finger - second finger, long finger, tall finger, or birdy finger.
• Ring finger - third finger
