Foo is a name given to a temporary file, temporary function, or temporary variable (metasyntactic variable). This name is later replaced by something more suitable, if the temporary solution remains a viable solution.
Note
Other examples of temporary names sometimes used include bar, baz, blah, blarg, bongo, corge, foobar, fred, qux, thud, and waldo.
