Fraction may refer to any of the following:

Fraction equal to one eighth.

1. A fraction is a numerical tool for representing parts of a whole. Fractions are primarily used where whole numbers aren't sufficient or precise enough to describe a term or situation. For example, if you had a pizza cut into eight slices, a serving could be 1/8 of the pizza.

These partial numbers are always separated by a horizontal or slanted line. The top or first number of the fraction is called the numerator, and the bottom or second number is called the denominator. There are two types of fractions based on which number is larger. For example, "1/2" is a proper fraction because the numerator is smaller than the denominator. In an instance where the numerator is larger, you have what's called an improper fraction.

2. With a spreadsheet program, like Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, a fraction is a number format that shows a decimal number (e.g., 0.5) as a fraction.
