G
G may refer to any of the following:
1. Sometimes also displayed as <G>, G is chat slang for a grin and is used to illustrate a grin (smile) in text-based communication.
2. G is a keyboard key used with the keyboard shortcuts Alt+G, Command+G, and Ctrl+G.
3. In a debug routine, "g" is entered to run the debug routine.
4. With some Logitech gaming keyboards, a "G" in a circle is a keyboard function key that turns on Game mode. When enabled, Game mode turns off the Windows key. For example, pressing Fn+F8 on the Logitech G513 keyboard turns the Game mode on and off. When enabled, an LED (light-emitting diode) indicator next to the G in a circle appears in the top-right portion of the keyboard.
5. With Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet programs, "G" is the seventh column of a spreadsheet. To reference the first cell in the column, you'd use "G1."
6. In Adobe Photoshop, pressing the "G" key selects the Gradient tool. Pressing Shift+G cycles through related tools, including the Paint Bucket tool.
7. G is the SI-derived symbol of giga.
8. In the phonetic alphabet, "G" is often pronounced as "golf."
9. G is the seventh letter of the English alphabet. The letter "G" comes after "F" and is followed by the letter "H." To create a capitalized "G," press Shift and G at the same time.
With U.S. QWERTY keyboards, the "G" key is on the home row, to the right of the "F" and left of the "H" key. See our keyboard page for a visual example of all keyboard keys.
If the "G" key is not working on the keyboard, see: Some keys on my computer keyboard aren't working.
In ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange), the uppercase "G" is "071" in decimal (01000111 in binary). The lowercase "g" is "103" in decimal (01100111 in binary).
The number 4 on a phone keypad creates a "G" on a US phone.
