Gamergate

Gamergate was a situation where women became the target of harassment and threatening behavior because of their criticism of sexism in the video game industry. Beginning in August 2014, the women included video game designers and journalists. Personal information about the women was released online in retaliation for their published views. The controversy brought the cultural topics of gender, class, and political discrimination to the forefront of criticism of the gaming industry in general.
