GIMP may refer to any of the following:

1. Short for GNU image manipulation program, GIMP, or The GIMP is a freely distributed program for image retouching, composition, and authoring. GIMP was written by Peter Mattis, Josh MacDonald, and Spencer Kimball and released on November 22, 1995. It is available and free to use under the general public license.

Another great GIMP solution is GIMPShop, a special version of GIMP designed to emulate and be more user-friendly for users familiar with Adobe Photoshop. GIMPShop is available for the macOS, Windows, Linux, and Solaris platforms.

GIMPS, the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search.

2. GIMPS is also short for Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search, a volunteer computing project that tests potential Mersenne prime numbers. These numbers have important uses in computing, particularly in pseudorandom number generation. On December 7, 2018, the largest Mersenne prime was discovered by GIMPS user Patrick Laroche in Ocala, Florida, using an i5-4590T CPU (central processing unit) operating at 2.0 GHz. His number, 2^82589933-1, is the 51st discovered Mersenne prime and is 24,862,048 digits long.
