Halt

Halt may refer to any of the following:

1. Halt is another word for stop or pause.

2. A HALT or halt instruction is the operation code (HLT in assembly) that originally caused the CPU (central processing unit) to stop. Today, the instruction causes an operating system trap to allow the operating system to take over control.
