Developed in 2004 by Alex Pankratov, Hamachi is a VPN (virtual private network) service for hosting and connecting to private servers. Using Hamachi, a user can create a VPN tunnel to allow other users to connect to their home or business network. These tunnels allows users to utilize LAN (local area network) features of programs and online games. Hamachi servers are secured by a server name and password to prevent unwanted access.

Hamachi is available on Windows, Linux, and macOS computers. Using the free version of the service, Hamachi servers can have up to 6 members, and can be accessed anytime the host computer is online. Paid subscribers can access premium options, such as increased user limits and remote access to unattended computers.

Hamachi was purchased by LogMeIn in 2009.
