Often called hi-fi or hifi, high fidelity describes the high-quality reproduction of sound recordings, usually music. High-fidelity equipment reduces or eliminates distortion and background noise on poor-quality recordings.
High fidelity is often utilized by audiophiles as they prefer equipment that provides optimal sound reproduction and recording. It is also common amongst movie buffs who want the best sound experience when viewing their favorite films.
