Short for Hewlett-Packard Unix, HP-UX is an operating system released in 1984. With a design strongly influenced by System V, HP-UX is built to serve mission-critical applications and IT (information technology) services on the Internet. Its goal is to significantly reduce the complexity, risk, and development costs for companies to bring their business onto the web.
