Morning every time i turn on my pc , this comes up to SKIP DISK CHECKING PRESS ANY KEY. i do that and nothing happens.next. it says' ,
scanning disk E next  scanning and repairing  disk E next fixing disk E.   each of these tasks takes approx 3/4 minutes.
this has happened since i updated my pc . it may be coincidental,  but it is very annoying .
   can anyone help  Please.

Try downloading a trial copy of HDsentinel from https://www.hdsentinel.com/

Run the program to check the drives health. I suspect there is a problem with the drive which windows Chkdsk isn't repairing.

It sounds like autocheck is detecting a dirty bit on e: drive. Autocheck only runs checkdisk, but with no repair switch.

Do the following: Open a command prompt - type: chkdsk e: /r

Then press Enter. Checkdisk will run and repair anything that needs to be repaired on e: Do not interrupt the process - allow it to run to completion.

Thanks to both of you for replying. i have been busy this week so only just got to test your suggestions.

Lisa Maree. tried your's  all i get is    unidentified codec  tried it several times , major geeks/  and file hippo.  same thing.

same with yours Allan when i type it in run and click it or press enter. nothing happens it just goes' back to desktop
if i go to command prompt , and type it   i get, chkdsk e:/r  is not recognized as internal or external command

can you give me anything else.     Thanks

Allan

You need to enter a space between e: and /r
Run it again from the command prompt exactly like this:
chkdsk e: /r

did it like you said Allan, got this   Access denied you dont have sufficient privileges,or the disk is locked.

you have to invoke running in elevated mode make sure disk is unlocked.

   dose that make sense.

Open command prompt as admin (right-click on command prompt and choose "Run as admin") then run chkdsk e: /r
