VPN is a tool that can increase your privacy.

When you use a VPN, your Internet is routed through an encrypted tunnel between you and the VPN. The Internet Service Provider of the network you're connected to, such as your home network or public wi-fi, cannot see what websites you visit. The ISP can see that encrypted traffic is going between you and the VPN provider, and the volume of traffic, but cannot view the encrypted data. Depending on how your VPN is configured, your DNS requests may be visible to your ISP.

The websites you visit do not see your IP address in their access logs. Instead, they see the IP address of the VPN provider. This provides an additional level of privacy, because the IP address is shared by other VPN users, and is not associated with you in particular. Your VPN provider will usually log the websites you visit, however depending on the policy of the VPN service provider, these logs might be destroyed after a short period of time. Some VPN providers guarantee that logs are scrubbed after 24 hours, for example.

In some cases, you can use the VPN to bypass geographical restrictions, because the website thinks you are located at the geographical location of your VPN provider's IP address, rather than your own

Note that the VPN can provide privacy, but you should not rely upon it for guaranteed anonymity. The VPN service may divulge your activity if requested by a legal authority. Check the VPN terms of service for information about the provider's privacy policy.

I hope this information helps.
