I found this program a while ago. It automatically updates your HOSTS file (more info on that here: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm) with a button click. However, this program has disappeared of the Internet. I've uploaded my copy of it and linked to it below. You can use it if you have/get the free 7-zip program.

Yes, this is legal, as the program is freeware (I stress, though, it's not mine). Enjoy. :)

This has been posted eons ago, but I'd like to add that you do not need to use the batch file to upgrade the host file..

Actually, you should never use a batch file that you obtain from the Internet.

I am currently looking for another service to hold the file. The current one had some non-kosher ads.

A bit of collaboration has completed this goal, all is now well (and hopefully, Windows Live Folders will prove to be a good service)

The last time I used HOSTS Secure, it didnt work.
It seems manually editing the HOSTS file with the list here:
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm
List: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.txt (WARNING! 702KB Text file. Might not go over so well on some computers)

Right-click an empty space on the Desktop and create a new folder.

Important! Windows Vista requires special instructions           see here

Download hosts.zip
  • IE users Right-click on the link and select Save As.
  • Firefox users Right-click on the link and choose Save link as...
  • Save it to the new folder just created.
  • Open the new folder and unzip the contents of DelDomains.zip
  • making sure Internet Explorer is closed right-click on mvps.bat and choose Open
  • Follow any prompts. When it installs you won't see anything happen so give it a few seconds.
  • Delete the new folder and restart the computer.
Note: if you use SpywareBlaster, Spybot and/or IE-SPYAD, it will be necessary to re-install the protection they afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and select Enable all protection. For Spybot run the program and select Immunize. For IE-SPYAD, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.
