  • French weaver, inventor, and merchant. Played an important role in the development of the earliest programmable loom, known today as the Jacquard Loom. His work heavily influenced the development of later programmable machines, including computers.
  • The Most Famous Image in the Early History of Computing is the portrait of Jacquard woven in silk on a Jacquard loom. It required 24,000 punched cards to create (1839).
