LDAP

Short for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, LDAP is an Internet protocol that runs over TCP (Transmission Control Protocol). It was designed at the University of Michigan, and is based on X.500.
LDAP is an easier version of X.500, therefore, most e-mail clients today and in the future contain this protocol or OpenLDAP.
