Line frequency
Updated: 11/12/2023 by Computer Hope
Also called mains frequency or utility frequency, the line frequency is the amount of complete AC (alternating current) cycles that occur in one second period and is usually represented in Hz (Hertz). In most parts of the world, the line frequency is either 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
The line frequency is important because most electrical devices are designed to work at a specific frequency. Using a device designed for a different frequency can cause damage to that device.
