Line conditioner

Alternatively called a power conditioner, a line conditioner is a device that protects a computer from variations in power (e.g., spikes and brownouts). It's connected to the wall outlet, and the computer and its powered peripherals are plugged into it. A good example of a line conditioner for an end-user and most users is a UPS (uninterruptible power supply).
