Logical partition

A logical partition, also known as LPAR, is a portion of a computer's hardware resources that is set aside and virtualized as an additional computer. A single computer can have multiple logical partitions, each with its own operating system and hardware resources to utilize.

In the business and enterprise computing market, logical partitions are used for hosting multiple server environments within a single, large unit. Logical partitions are similar to hypervisors and are used interchangeably in server virtualization documentation.
