MDBMS
Updated: 02/27/2019 by Computer Hope
Short for Multidimensional Database Management System, an MDBMS is a type of database management system that portrays data in more than three dimensions. Data is pulled from relational databases and correlated quickly to provide answers to queries. An MDBMS may represent data as a hypercube to better illustrate its concepts.
Applications
An MDBMS is used for data warehouse applications, and applications that handle analytical processing.
Advantages of MDBMS
- Easy to maintain.
- Enhanced representation of data.
- Faster and more efficient delivery of data, compared to other database management systems.
Data in an MDBMS can be viewed using an OLAP (online analytical processing) tool. Examples of OLAP tools include IBM Cognos, Microsoft Analysis Services, Mondrian OLAP server, and SAP (Systems Applications and Products) NetWeaver Business Warehouse.
