Mod

A mod may refer to any of the following:

1. A modification, add-on, or mod that an individual or group of individuals create for a game. For example, there are mods for such games as Battlefield, Quake, Unreal Tournament, Half-Life, Skyrim, World of Warcraft etc. A mod may enable a user to use different weapons, different vehicles, different character models, or change the game entirely. The majority of all mods done today are freely distributed and available over the Internet.

2. A mod may also refer to a case mod, which are modifications to a computer that increase the speed of the computer or enhance its visual appearance. For example, a computer case with a window may have a CCFL (cold cathode fluorescent lighting) to show help show the inside of the computer.

Someone who does modding is called a modder.

3. When used in chat, mod is an abbreviation for moderator.

4. Mod is an abbreviation used for the modulo operation, used in computer programming.

5. The Mod key is a keyboard key used with some compact keyboards to give the user the ability to perform all actions on a normal keyboard. For example, because the function key row is often missing with these keyboards, a user could press Mod+2 to press F2.
