Updated: 05/04/2019 by Computer Hope
Initially released in 2016, the Moto Z is a line of Android smartphones manufactured by Motorola. The phone introduced the unique capability of attaching a large variety of proprietary accessories (called Moto Mods) to the device. Moto Mods affix to the back of the phone, adding functionality to it. They are interchangeable based on the user's needs.
Examples of Moto Mods include enhanced speakers, larger batteries, projectors, and camera lenses.
Versions of the Moto Z
- Moto Z - The original Moto Z was released in 2016 with 32-64 GB storage and a 5.5-inch display.
- Moto Z2 Play - Released in 2017, the second generation Moto Z has 3-4 GB RAM and a similar design to the original to preserve the functionality of the Moto Mods.
- Moto Z3 and Moto Z3 Play - Released in 2018, the third generation Moto Z has 6 GB RAM, and introduced a Moto Mod that added 5G connection capabilities. The standard Z3 is a Verizon exclusive device, while the Z3 Play is available on all carriers.
