Alternatively called cyberethics, netiquette is the unwritten rules of Internet courtesy.

Netiquette examples

Below are examples of some commonly broken rules.

  1. Follow the same basic rules you would in your real life.
  2. Treat others as you want them to treat you.
  3. Do not type in all uppercase as it comes across as if you are YELLING or shouting.
  4. Do not use mixed uppercase and lowercase when it is unnecessary.
  5. Keep messages brief.
  6. Use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  7. Be polite and avoid offensive language.
  8. Do not flame.
  9. Be careful when using humor and sarcasm as it may be misinterpreted.
  10. Do not spam (flood) a message board or chat room with the same message.
