Nimrod

A nimrod may refer to any of the following:

1. Nimrod is the original name of the Nim programming language.

2. The Nimrod was the name of an early computer that was specially designed to play the mathematical strategy game Nim. It was displayed in 1951 at the Festival of Britain's Exhibition of Science and is currently exhibited at the Computerspielemuseum in Berlin.

3. Nimrod is the name of a special software tool for working with a type of parallel computer programs known as "embarrassingly parallel". Embarrassingly parallel tasks are tasks that can be distributed over multiple CPUs with little or no effort, usually because the individual tasks do not need to communicate with each other.

4. Nimrod (which stands for National Institute Machine Radiating On Downs) is the name of a particle accelerator that operated in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, from 1964 to 1978. It was located at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, and was disassembled to make room for another particle accelerator called ISIS that is still in operation today.
