Object
An object may refer to any of the following:
1. In general, an object refers to any item, either in the physical or virtual world. For example, a computer is considered an object in the physical world. A document, file, folder, icon, and picture are all considered objects in the virtual world.
2. With computer software, an object is any embedded file. For example, someone may create a spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel with an embedded Microsoft Word files to help describe parts of the spreadsheet.
3. In computer graphics, an object refers to an item within a graphic, such as a graphic circle or a square.
4. When dealing with computer programming and data objects, see the object-oriented programming definition.
5. With HTML (hypertext markup language), the <object> tag designates an object embedded into a web page.
