Offsite
Updated: 08/16/2021 by Computer Hope
Offsite describes a location that's different from the computer site. For example, to help with fault tolerance, a company may store their data backups in an offsite backup location. By storing backups offsite, if a business suffers from a natural disaster (e.g., flood or earthquake), or a fire destroys their business, their offsite data backups are available for recovery. Offsite locations, especially for data backup, are often located in another city or state to reduce the chance of a natural disaster causing damage to the primary and offsite location.
Tip
An easy method to store a backup in an offsite location is to use a cloud backup service.
